For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV)

Years ago I was given a word of encouragement during presbytery at my church (Gateway Church NRH). After Pastor Brady Boyd gave his word of encouragement to my husband, he turned over to me and said,

You are a spiritual bulldog! When you latch on to something you hang on. You’re steadfast. You’re immovable. You’re able to wrestle to the ground things that other people give up on… You’re steadfast, ferocious. God wired you that way.

I believe this spoke to the Mom inside me. As mothers and leaders in our homes, we must be spiritual bulldogs to fight off the attacks against our families.

As mothers, we might be quiet and soft. But when someone tries to mess with our babies, the lioness inside us comes out.

Not only should we fight for our families, but we must also fight for our Identity.

This has been one of the hardest battles I’ve had to fight. Sometimes I did lose some battles, but God held me in the palm of his hands until the storm had passed.

Because we mothers wear so many hats, we may be prone to losing our Identity in the midst of our responsibilities.

A sure way to lose our identity is to disconnect from God by disconnecting from His Word and fellowship, and trying to find it in activities that only give temporary relief making us feel good about ourselves.

Ever since I started reading the Bible daily, I have noticed my confidence and faith increase.

Being an introvert (I’ve come a long way, baby!), I used to internalize pain. Introverts don’t process things immediately; we need time. It takes us days or weeks to realize we’ve been deeply hurt. Unfortunately, the enemy can really cause havoc in our minds and emotions.

Having our identity anchored in God strengthens our character and gives us the confidence we need to face the challenges of everyday life.

Our battle is not with our husbands or other earthlings… it truly is against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

As wise mothers, we should see through the smokescreen of challenges and really see who is behind it trying to steal our peace.

With God’s help we can overcome every principality, power and spiritual hosts because greater is He that is in us than he who is in the world.
